Description
The opening of this new exhibition at Lancaster Maritime Museum celebrates the history of the Lancaster Canal.
Built to be a vital link between the North West urban centres of Preston, Lancaster and Kendal, the Lancaster Canal was an important goods route for trade and industry, and provided an impressive passenger transport service in the age before railways, linking communities of the region together.
Today, efforts are underway to revitalise the Canal to encourage new uses by modern communities and to restore the missing links. This new exhibition celebrates this waterway and raises awareness not only of its history but also the exciting future prospects for new development.
