Description
The Morecambe Bay: A Wealth of Wildlife project has moved into its second year and this event programme provides both inland and coastal events and activities providing opportunities to increase access to the beautiful natural places between Fleetwood and Ulverston. Go out and explore.
Led by Lancashire Wildlife Trust and in partnership with Cumbria Wildlife Trust we continue to connect communities through a series of events, training workshops and volunteering opportunities. Supported by Natural England through Access to Nature, as part of the Big Lottery Fund's Changing Spaces programme, this project will also be working in partnership with many other organisations over the lifetime of the project.

WINTER WADER WALK - Saturday 11th February 2012 at 11.00 am – 1.30 pm
Walk at Barnaby’s Sands and Burrows Marsh with the Wyre rangers who invite you to join them for a crisp winter walk around the nature reserve where you will explore this important habitat and find out how important it is for wading birds. Meeting point is at the car park at the Heads, Burrows Lane, Stalmine. SD: 352454. Terrain a little uneven so stout foot ware needed. Wear warm clothing and wellies. Bring lunch and a warm drink, binoculars and a telescope if you have them.

RAMBLE IN THE REEDS - Friday 17 February at 11.30 am – 1.00 pm or 1.30 – 3.00 pm
Come along to this family event and explore the amazing reedbed at Leighton Moss Nature Reserve and find out why it’s so good for wildlife. Wear warm and waterproof clothing. Meet at Leighton Moss, Myers Farm, Silverdale. Carnforth. LA5 0SW.

UPPER LUNE ESTUARY WALK - Saturday 10th March at 10.00 am – 3.00 pm
This walk is led by local expert Dan Haywood. Meet at the end of Lancaster Quay to visit Freeman's Pool and other small ponds and also watch a high spring tide along the estuary which may unearth Rock Pipit and Jack Snipe as well as the usually more visible waterfowl and waders. This is an 'open-ended' event and people can turn back as time /commitments allow. High tide is at 12.26hpm 10.4m. Suitable for wheelchairs.

SALTMARSHES AND MUDFLATS - Monday 2nd April at 11.00 am – 1.00 pm Come along and explore both the salt marsh and mudflat habitats along the River Wyre. Come prepared with wellies, waterproofs and binoculars (if you have them) to explore wildlife that live in these very special habitats. Meet in the River room at the Wyre Estuary Country Park, River Road, Stanah, Thornton, FY5 5LR.

WILDLIFE DRAMA WORKSHOP at Morecambe Bay - Tuesday 3rd April at 10.00 am – 3.00 pm
Explore the Bay through a wildlife drama workshop. Children will join in with fun games, activities and prepare to take part in a performance for parents at the end of the session. WILDLIFE CYCLE RIDE - Saturday 21st April at 10.00 am – 12.30 pm
Come along to this family event and join the Lancashire Wildlife Trust and the RSPB for exercise, beautiful scenery and a chance to learn about the wildlife along the Lune estuary. Bikes and riders meet on the millennium bridge and we will go on a ride past Freemans Pools to Glasson Dock and back. Please bring refreshments and binoculars if you have them.

WILDLIFE SAFARI at Humphrey Head Nature Reserve - June (date and time to be arranged)
Reserves Officer Pete Jones leads a child-friendly family walk suitable (children 6+), taking advantage of low tide to examine the special geology, habitats and wildlife found here. We’ll use special bug tracking kit to detect long-winged coneheads and more. Depending on the route - you may get your feet wet! Please bring appropriate outdoor clothing. Meet at the layby at Humphrey Head NR entrance, near Grange over Sands, SD 388 746. Not suitable for wheelchairs, no dogs allowed.

LUNE WETLAND BIRD SURVEY (WeBS) - Monday 25th June at 9.00 am to noon
Accompany Jean Roberts the local British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) representative on her waterway bird survey along the River Lune between Bull Beck and the Crook O’ Lune.
