Description

Shakespeare in the Castle - Much Ado about Nothing - Demi Paradise Productions - Lancaster Castle

At last, demi-paradise present one of the greatest of all romantic comedies, complete with happy ending. Our dynamic full cast production, set in the 1890s, is performed, promanade style, in the splendid setting of the Shire Hall, Crown Court, Hadrians Tower and prison cells.

Hero and Claudio fall in love at first sight; their union blessed by Hero's father, Leonato, and Claudio's princely patron, Don Pedro. Claudio's worldly fellow soldier Benedick spars with Leonato's brilliantly minded niece Beatrice in a ‘merry war’ of words, and both are unwittingly drawn into a double matchmaking conspiracy. Meanwhile misunderstandings are maliciously generated by Don Pedro's jealous brother Don John and his henchman, Borachio. It takes an incidental outside force in the guise of the bumbling Watchman Dogberry to reveal the plot and allow the intertwined journeys of the two sets of lovers to conclude with a celebratory ending.
