A stroll around Heysham Village and Heysham Head
Take a pleasant stroll along the recently redesigned promenade from Morecambe to Heysham and learn fascinating facts about the area by reading the panels on the ground as you go. Take a walk around Heysham Village, its oldest buildings, including the Heritage Centre open in season, date back to the early 1600s. A Heysham Village Trail leaflet can be obtained from Morecambe Visitor Information Centre. Take refreshments at the Royal Hotel or various cafés on Main Street.
Then take the path up to the beautiful St Peter’s Church, one of the oldest churches in Lancashire. Inside you can see many artefacts including a Scandinavian hog backed tombstone. Continue to the top of the national trust headland of Heysham Head, to the remains of St Patrick’s Chapel where unique rock-cut graves thought to date back to 11th century are dotted around the historic ruins. Enjoy magnificent views over Morecambe & its Bay to the Lakeland Peaks beyond - surely one of the greatest views in England. You could continue taking in the sweeping views by following the path along the headland down to Half Moon Bay, returning to the village the same way or by the footpath on Barrows Lane.
