Hornby Castle - Military Vehicle Rally

Once again Hornby Castle will be host to historic military vehicles, their drivers and re-enactors as the fourth Military Vehicle Trust Hornby Castle event takes place on the 31st May and 1st of June 2008.

Hornby Castle is only open to the public twice a year and this is a rare opportunity to see the grounds, gardens and parts of the castle.

Last year there were over sixty military vehicles of all sizes mainly from World War II and later. These are vehicles which have been restored to their original standard by private owners and are used very regularly not only for shows such as this but also on a daily basis. The owners are
more than willing to talk to visitors about their vehicles and are only too happy to have them photographed.

The show field is the best site anywhere, situated below the castle, alongside the river Wenning and bordered with mature trees. It is a beautiful setting for the displays of wartime equipment and demonstrations of how camps were set up in the field.
On Saturday and Sunday there will be road runs when the vehicles drive in convoy through the villages for people to see. These take place around mid day.

The social highlight of the weekend is the authentic 40’ style dance on Saturday night. This is held in the refurbished Village Institute and tickets, which include supper, are available to the public by contacting the organisers on 01524734358. The dance is proving more popular each year so book early to be sure of your ticket and come in forties style dress if possible to be part of the event.

The gates open at 10.30 am. on both days and last admission is 4.00 pm. Entry fees are £3.00 and £2.00 (concessions) and refreshments in the form of a NAAFI canteen and a beer tent will be available on site throughout the weekend.
