The Bridge Inn

Two linked buildings, one dating from 1642, the other from 1744, make up the Bridge Inn, a grand old hostelry which in coaching days was known as the Bridge End. The white-painted, slate-roofed exterior promises a wealth of character within, and that's exactly what the visitor will find in the bar, the snug, the non-smoking main restaurant, and the upstairs dining room. There's also a spacious beer garden looking out across peaceful, unspoilt countryside.

The pub is run with notable flair and style by Peter and Bernadette Williams who took over here in March 2005. They serve excellent food with a menu ranging from freshly-made sandwiches and appetisers such as crispy chicken dippers, through salads and vegetarian dishes, to hearty main courses such as The Bridge game pie, local gammon steak and home-made lasagne. Wine is available by the bottle or glass. The inn has its own off-road parking and also a caravan park with space for five vehicles with electric hook-up, a disposal area and running water caravanners can use the inn's toilet facilities. Lower Tatham itself is notable for its ancient stone bridge, the 13th century church of St Mary of Antioch and Hornby Castle which was famously painted by JMW Turner.
